(MISSISSAUGA, ONT.)— Subaru Canada Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce that its reverse automatic braking (RAB) feature earned high praise in a new rear crash prevention-rating program introduced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Among the first group of vehicles tested in the rear crash prevention-rating program, the Subaru Outback, when equipped with the available RAB feature, was singled out as a top performer, earning a Superior rating from the IIHS.

Launched to help car-buyers identify vehicles with technology that can mitigate or prevent low-speed reverse collisions, the rear crash prevention-rating program evaluates a number of technologies and functions for their ability to prevent crashes. The Outback was one of six vehicles to have their RAB systems evaluated by the IIHS, and one of only two to earn a Superior rating.
Reverse automatic braking is available on many popular Subaru models, including the Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, Impreza, Legacy and WRX. The feature is just one of many collision mitigation measures introduced by Subaru, including the EyeSight suite of safety and convenience features, which includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, among others, and the Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD) system, which includes blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. These help make Subaru vehicles some of the safest on the market.
The IIHS recently awarded six Subaru models Top Safety Pick (TSP) and Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) designations for the 2018 model year. The 2018 Impreza, Legacy, Outback and WRX models each earned the TSP+ award from the IIHS when equipped with EyeSight driver assist technology and LED steering-responsive headlights. Additionally, 2018 Crosstrek and Forester received the Top Safety Pick (TSP) award when equipped with EyeSight and LED steering-responsive headlights.
